POPUP FESTIVAL:

DEAR FUTURE US

The birth of a child is almost always accompanied by a sense of euphoria and disbelief. While the initial rite of passage into parenthood may be tough, parents that I have conducted interviews with have shared that their anxiety was replaced with confidence in the later months. However, it is when the child starts his/her education in a preschool when the struggles of juggling both work and parenthood become very real. Many in their interview shared that they experience fatigue, and in that tiredness, it is easy to forget the excitement of having a family, especially when they also feel the physical and financial strains.

This project is titled “Dear Future Us”, a pop-up festival for parents that hopes to encourage these young families through the reminder of the joys of parenthood. By an intentional act of documentation of little everyday joys that become good memories and keeping it in a time capsule, it hopes to affirm them that all the time spent with their child, and the sacrifices that they have made for them is worth it. And while at present things might be tough, it will pass.

This popup festival is supported by the government organisation called Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF). They will reach out to these social media platforms of parent communities groups on Facebook where parents gather and actively discuss and share their struggles. It is a giveaway through social media. These time capsule box will be delivered to these young parents the night before. The next morning, they will work on the time capsule together over the weekend.
